Class meets Tuesday and Thursday, 10:30 to 11:45 in Maryland 202.
Office hours are Monday, 3:00-4:00. However, the way they work is I'll be there for the first 15 minutes, and if no one comes, I'll feel free to leave unless someone has emailed me and told me they are coming but won't be there in the first 15 minutes.
In addition, you should all know about the math department help room that is open nearly all day and most evenings during the week. It is in Krieger 213.
Students in this course are assumed to be serious math majors and will be treated as such. Each week there will be a reading assignment, see below, and a homework assignment due the next Tuesday sometime after 11. After that there will be an exam each week that is one or more of the homework problems just handed in. Also, 2 problems on your homework will be graded seriously each week. Your grade will be made up primarily from these exams and homework, which should not be hard if you have done the homework.
At the start of Tuesday class, I will give a summary of the material for the week. What is left of Tuesday (except for the exam) and most of Thursday, will be problems worked in class one way or another. This is somewhat dependent on the personality of the class. With a whole week to prepare, students should get the homework and be able to do well on the weekly exams.
