Calculus III, 110.202, Fall 2007, W. Stephen Wilson
Problem Set Number 2, Due Th-Fri Sept 20-21.
These problems can be discussed in groups but must be handed in by each student. Keep in mind my warnings about how to learn in the Syllabus.
This set is due at the beginning of section. There will be a quiz in section on this material.
The reading assignment for the week is Section 2.3-6, i.e., finish up Chapter 2. We'll get into Chapter 3 if possible, but it doesn't seem likely.
I will go lightly on Section 2.5 in class, but the material is essential. You have to have a working knowledge of all the formulas in that section and it wouldn't hurt you to read the proofs. I will skip pretty much everthing but a discussion of the forumula for the chain rule. I will work some problems with it. I particularly want to have time to work some problems using the gradient in Section 2.6, so something has to go.
Problems:
Section 2.4, pages 149-150.
8, 10, 14, 16, 18, 20
Section 2.5, pages 159-163.
2(g), 4, 8, 10,
Section 2.6, pages 171-173.
