Problem Set Number 1, Due Th-Fri Sept 13-14.

These problems can be discussed in groups but must be handed in by each student. Keep in mind my warnings about how to learn in the Syllabus.

This set is due at the beginning of section. There will be a quiz in section on this material.

The reading assignment for the week is Chapter 1 and Sections 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3. This is a lot of reading. We will go lightly on Section 2.2 but you should be aware of it. Section 2.3 is fundamental to the course.
