Text: J. Marsden and A. Tromba, Vector Calculus, 5th edition. We will cover most of the text.
Exams: There will be 2 mid-term exams and a final exam. There will be absolutely no make-up exams. For excused absences, the grade for a missed exam will be a scaled average of subsequent exam grades. Documentation of illness, etc., must be provided to and approved by the Office of Academic Advising. Unexcused absence from an exam counts as a 0.
Assignments:
A homework set will be assigned every week.
All problems assigned in a given week will be collected at the section
meeting the following week. For
example, problems pertaining to lectures on Monday, January 30 through
Wednesday, February 1 will be collected at your section meeting on Thursday,
February 9 (if you are enrolled in section 1 or 2) or Friday, February 10 (if
you are enrolled in section 4). Late
homework will not be accepted under any circumstances (including excused
absence). The two lowest (or missing) homework scores will be dropped.
You are allowed to collaborate with other students in this course on
the weekly problem sets. On the
other hand, each individual is required to contribute equally during
collaboration and to fully understand the solution to each and every problem.
Each individual is expected to hand in his/her own solution set.
Grading: Homework 10%, Midterms 25% each, and Final 40%,
Help Room: 213 Kreiger Hall. Open 9am-9pm on Monday through Thursday and 9am-5pm on Friday. This free service is a very valuable way to get one-on-one help. It is staffed by graduate students and advanced undergraduates.
