Final Exam News:
The Final is on Wednesday, May 7, at 9am, in Hackerman B17 (our regular classroom). It sits in a three-hour time slot. However, the exam itself will be only twice the length of the midterms. Thus time should not be an issue with the exam. Please show up early, and please again: no calculators (in fact, you need nothing but something to write with.
We will grade immediately afterward. I suspect we will be finished by Thursday, and grades will be computed and posted by Friday COB. Early the following week, you will have an opportunity to see your exam, if you like. However, unlike the midterms, the final exams are the property of the department and they stay with us. Good luck all and thank you for such a nice semester.
Second Exam News:
The results of the survey on the second exam date are now in: With more than half of the class responding, the general consensus is that the new date of April 23, is preferred. I realize that this presents an issue for some of you due to other events that week, but over half of respondents prefer the new date, and fully 3/4 either prefer the new date or do not care. Less than a quarter of respondents prefer the original date. And I strongly suspect that there are a lot of "I don't care" responses in the non-responders. The overall reason of restricting the covered material was a strong one. Again, I understand that there may be an issue with other course events that week. Feel free if you need to talk to me more about this, but the new exam date will be Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
First Exam News:
The First Midterm, scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2014, has been postponed until Friday, March 7, 2014, due to the snow day on Monday. The exam will cover all sections we covered up to and including 4.1. We will talk in class on Wednesday about the details.
Note: Chapter 1 is to be considered prerequisite material. We will mention some highlights in class, but we will not spend much time on it.
