  Recents Writings

• 30-Seconds Maths  A coffee-table book of quick descriptions and essays on big and little ideas in mathematics.  I edited this book in 2012.

• Mathematics for the Curious:  Why Study Mathematics?  I wrote Chapter 1 for this text on what it means to study mathematics at the university-level and beyond.

• A Modern Introduction to Dynamical Systems.  A text book set for print release in the summer of 2018 from Oxford University Press.

 Recent Public-ish Things....

• JHU Flash Seminar, April 2016:  "Could we detect if our reality were just someone else's simulation?"

• Why Mathematics?  A TEDxJohnsHopkinsUniversity (now TEDxJHU) talk given in 2014.

• Why Math?  An interview given to the HUB in 2014.

• Who You Know, an audio interview from a student at Hopkins on SoundCloud, about who I am and what I do, what studying math at Hopkins, etc.  

• The Art of Problem-Solving Instruction:  The 2016 version of a yearly orientation talk to new graduate students who will act as recitation instructors here at JHU. 

• Surviving and Thriving in University-Level Mathematics:  A talk given during freshman orientation on what to expect and how to survive and thrive in a first, univesity-level math course at a place like Hopkins.  This is given as what we call an Academic Interest Panel discussion.  This talk is also given, more or less, in the same form to JUMP-START students as part of an early summer orientation sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Hop-In students, another bridge program geared to help in the transition to university learning.
• The Math Major at Hopkins, a presentation given to introduce the Mathematics Major to admitted students during SOHOP, the Spring Open House and Overnight Program, where admitted students are invited for a two day stay to experience life at Hopkins.
