Professor Joseph Shalika (1941-2010)
It is with great sadness that the Johns Hopkins University Department of Mathematics announces that our friend and colleague, Joseph Shalika (Professor Emeritus) passed away suddenly on September 18, 2010. Professor Shalika received his A.B. (1961) and his Ph.D. (1966) from the Johns Hopkins University and has been on the faculty here since 1971, serving as chair from 1979-1982. Professor Shalika is the author of some of the most important basic results in the modern theory of automorphic forms and representations. Per Professor Shalika's request, the family has not planned a memorial service.
