X Windows desktop

There are two windows manager on the new server: GNOME and KDE.

The default desktop is GNOME, but KDE might be more familiar for many people.

To switch between these twp desktops, on the login screen, choose session->KDE or GNOME.

If you access chow using X-win32, it is recommended that you use KDE desktop. I had experience that with Gnome, sometimes xterm gets sloppy after a while.

Note: if you log in KDE for the first time, you might get a warning messages about sound, click "do not show that message again".

There are many places to configure your desktop settings. I'll mention more later. Here is one setting that some users may want to adjust, especially if you use X-win32 to connect. If you feel that the fonts on terminal (Konsole) is too small, click Setting->Configure Konsole->Session->high light shell and set fonts to large or whatever size you want to. The setting will be kept for future sessions.
